In May 2003 I traveled with a group of fellow George Fox students to Brazil for three weeks or so. We did all kinds of things there - learned Portugese, experienced a weekend (by myself) living and hanging out with a Brazilian family doing a homestay (the best way to learn and experience the culture), helped with rejuvinating (painting, planting, sweeping, etc.) a camp, going to a coffee plantation, playing with kids at an orphanage and doing light maintainance to the yard and buildings, taught English at an ESL camp, went to Iguacu Falls, and other things that I don't really remember. Overall, it was a great experience and I cannot wait to return to South America someday.

While visiting Iguacu Falls, Eleanor Roosevelt is said to have exclaimed, "Poor Niagra! These make it look like a kitchen faucet." This photo only shows about 1/4 of the falls. |
